Powers; As Scorpion: enhanced strength, enabling him to lift (press) about 15 tons, speed, endurance and agility (greater than Spider-Man's). As Venom: the symbiote further enhances Gargan's superhuman attributes including his agility and strength (enabling him to lift 40 tons optimally), and granting him the ability to cling to almost any surface, block Spider-Man's spider-sense, and enable him to blend in with the background. The symbiote can also produce organic webs which he can use for web-slinging from building to building or capturing opponents.
Abilities; Mac Gargan has the intellectual skills of an average detective, though he is mentally unstable.
Weapons; As Scorpion: The tail on his Scorpion costume could be used as a weapon. It has had axe-like additions on it, and originally it could simply be used to crush solid objects. As Venom, he has been able to mimic the shape of his old costume's tail.
Paraphernalia; As Scorpion: Mac Gargan wore a costume that was made of a steel mesh and rubber, granting him excellent protection from attack, and a cybernetic tail which possessed various weaponry that changed and upgraded periodically. The tail could be used as a spring or crushing tool.

FIRST APPEARANCE: Amazing Spider-man #20

NOTES: Mac Gargan was hired by J Jonah Jameson to spy on Peter Parker to find out how he got such good shots of Spider-man. However, Parker would always find out he was being followed cause of his spider-sense and would lose Gargan. Eventually, Jameson got sick of this but came up with another idea of how to get at Spider-man. Reading a article in the paper of Dr. Stillwell, who was researching animel genetics in humans, Jameson decided to use Gargan as a test subject.

FIRST APPEARANCE: Amazing Spider-man #20

NOTES: Stillwell used his research to transform Gargan into the Scorpion (as scorpion are the natural enemies of spiders). Scorpion went on to defeat Spider-man but as he went to colect his reward he learned that he was stuck in the scorpion. Blaming Jameson and Stillwell for this, he vowed revenge and attacked them both but they were saved by Spidey.

NOTES: After years of getting beat by Spidey, Gargan joined with Norman Osborn and after he was defeated, Gargan kidnapped and buried Aunt May, learning of Spidey's identity. Meanwhile, the Venom symbiote had left it's lastest host and found Gargan. As Spidey and Black Cat were breaking Osborn of out prison, the symbiote joined with Gargan to become the new Venom, much to Osborn, who had assembled a new Sinister Twelve, annoyance.
